How to Commission a Portrait

20150911_162038

People have many reasons for wanting to order (or “commission” in artist’s lingo) a portrait.

  • As a birthday gift
  • As a wedding gift
  • To honor someone in life
  • As a remembrance for the family or friend of someone who has passed
  • As a gesture of love for a special person
  • For whatever your very personal reason

My goal is to be your partner in creating a special piece of art for whatever your reason.

We would begin with a personal phone conversation (802-558-2105) to talk about your ideas. I work from photos rather than through sittings in my studio. You may already have a photo you would like me to use. Otherwise, I would love to meet your subject and photograph them myself. I generally just use my smartphone and it is a relaxed and non-intimidating experience.  It helps me if I meet the subject and get a sense of his/her personality, though this is not always possible if we are at a distance.

From there we can discuss a time frame for completion of the portrait. If requested, I will send you a digital version by e-mail for your comments before it is finalized.

Payment is due before I begin. When completed, I will ship the painting to you either in a temporary frame or in a wooden frame reading for hanging. As an option, you may pick it up at a location we agree on. See Pricing for details.
